Danny Simon Split May 2014
--------
An apology
--------
So you may have noticed that I haven't updated my website for almost a year. I haven't been idle since then, I promise. In fact we released the 5 5" super duper and mega limited Bandstand box set and then a crazy four cassette plus loads of cool bonuses box for cassette store day. I totally failed to celebrate any of this goodness here! I am sorry. This week will hopefully see the release of the split Danny Norbury/Simon Scott 8". It is a corker. I will eventually talk about it here. In the mean time look out for it at your favourite online music shops :-)

Hopefully over the summer I will give the whole site a spring clean, until then thank you for checking and sorry for being so rubbish at keeping things upto date.

Moon Ate the Dark - Molt and Grow
---------
Wow, I can't believe it's been 4 Months since the last release. After the great success of Clem's lovely 8" record and 3" CD dual format release another dual format release on ... you guessed it, 8" record and 3" CD. I discovered Anna and Chris's beautiful music through Clem so it is fitting their release should follow. After initially embarrassing myself by thinking Anna played the cello (after watching the amazing video of her playing guitar with a bow) I got chatting to Anna and Chris and they sent me their debut album, which is probably my favourite record of 2012, I then begged them to do a record with me and they produced two stunning tracks of piano and electronics which, if it's possible, bettered their debut release. These tracks became Molt and Grow. The 8" sold out on preorder (to avoid missing further super limited and ratehr wonderful preorders send me an email and I'll add you to my mailing list) but the 3" CD is just as lovely with tracing paper wrap round and hairy manila inner and  is available from Norman Records and Boomkat (possibly a few other shops too). It really is quite incredible and very much worth checking out.

Clem Leek - Rest
----------
The bad news is that Clem Leeks very lovely and simply beautiful record is no longer available ... from here. The good news is that boomkat and Norman Records will be stocking the CD version (and a handful of the 8" vinyl version) for up to the minute news on when this little winner will drop (and other news items) email jimlad at brianrecords dot co dot uk.

Please also note that all preorders are now sold out. Thank you to everyone who bought a copy, these lovely releases would never have seen the light of day without your trust and support.

If you really want to buy something from here however we do have a few copies of a lovely tape compilation featuring the wrens, harry pussy and Tim Friese-Greene. Just 5 pounds including UK postage and well worth every penny.

All the best and keep a careful eye on that inbox.

----------
Brian Records Live. Clem Leek. Esther Tyler Ward. 15th June. 8pm. St Swithins. Bath. 5 Pounds
----------
A night of beautiful music. Clem will be playing without any amplification and will be making full use of the concert grand and wonderful acoustics to create a wonderful evening of sumptuous lullabies and perfect daydreaming music.

Esther Tyler Ward - who featured on Radio Brian Volume 2 - will be singing simple, beautiful songs, with raw accompaniment on guitar. Expect a night of heartbreaking beauty and wonderful melody.

In other news just to say that despite the complete lack of news over the last six months things are rolling on. Johan G Winthers EP was sent out to everyone over the last month (with one exception) and 5 projects are all currently in differing states of gestation. Depending on how things turn out, 2012 may be our slowest year yet and 2013 our busiest. As soon as things are confirmed more details will be revealed and pre-orders will be announced.

MRC/PRB 5" Lathe Cut Record is out (and sold out)
----------
The next super limited (200) 5" lathe cut record has finally left the confines of my spare room/airing cupboard and has been sent out for sale. It went up so fast on the websites that by the time I am writing this most copies have vanished but you may be able to pick up a copy if you catch these guys in concert.
Boomkat had the following to say about the record:
"Lathe cuts are always a beautiful thing to behold and always more so when the music inscribed is of a fragile and tender nature. Peter Broderick's latest collaboration, this time with Eluvium's Matthew Robert Cooper fits the bill perfctly, offering one side of disintegrating keys dappled with early morning ambience, and a gentle flipside of strings and plangent piano. A gem for the collectors and another micro-hit for Brian Records."
I couldn't put it better myself.

Keep an eye out on Peter Brodericks website (peterbroderick.net) which should have a stunningly simple video by Ralph Etter of the track I am Darkness, I am Light. Its worth watching a few times.

MASSIVE APOLOGIES - The sleeve contains a spelling error (those of you who know me won't be in the least bit surprised, I really did go to special lessons at school, the sleeve notes are absolutely factual!) the Tim Friese-Greene car crash mix uses the track "semantics got me caned", not canned as it states. Really sorry, especially to Tim who was so gracious in allowing us to use his track in the first place. That  said, we are convinced that this error has profound poetic significance, given the epic struggle within which Runge Kutta find  themselves locked.....have they won the battle or the war? You be the judge.....

News of a new release
---------
Yesterday Brian Records 0000006 was released at both Norman Records and Boomkat. Today Boomkat is sold out and Norman are running low. To those who bought a copy thank you for the support.
---------
Brian records is proud to announce our first fully interactive release. Johan G Winther is releasing a beautiful EP with 4 original tracks, backed by remixes/reinterpretations by Machinefabriek and Clem Leek. Limited to just 50 copies we are asking you to design the artwork. Inspired by a book called homemade record sleeves
the intention is that you buy the release and are sent the MP3s. Whilst the lathe cut records are being cut you listen to the music and design your own sleeve (folded A3 in the Brian Records house stylee) you then send in your sleeve and when the records come back you will be sent the finished release in someone else's sleeve. Plus a book with all 50 sleeves. Plus a CD with all the tracks plus the best of your own revisions of the originals. I am pretty hyped about this one. If you are to you can bagsy a space on the list (no strings attached) by emailing "I'm in" to jimlad at brianrecords dot co dot uk.

Brian Records is going competition crazy
----------
Ever really wanted to win a crazy picture of Nils Frahm, an 8" lathe cut record in custom made packaging, a copy of Dauw played by Nils on tiny business card CDr, a copy of Replica by Peter B and Rauelson (slightly chewed by a small child), a copy of Radio Brian volume 2 and some original polaroid photos by Machinefabriek. Well now YOU CAN. Brian records, with Frome Fm have devised possibly the most ridiculously complicated set of rules for the competition. Here are just some of them.
- We will be playing 3 songs over three shows (First song will be played tonight, but don't worry the show will be available as a pod cast as well). Entrants will need to name the song and artist. Each song will have been released this year AND have a dubious link to Brian records.
- Once all three tracks have been named, people will need to email Ben at Frome FM and name the song and artist.
- As a tie braker they will need to also include a song and artist that they like which we haven't heard of! Our favourite track will be played on the evening I am there and will signify the winner who we will congratulate after the song.
- In the unlikely case where we have heard of all songs we will either use a psychic octopus to select the winner or who ever makes us laugh hardest or failing both of these we will choose our favourite track.

Gareth Davis "Nahuatl" out 18th November

Nahuatl is Gareth's first release on Brian records. I have lived with this record for a long time and I can honestly say that I am so incredibly proud to be releasing it. Like most of Gareth's work this is not some superficial pop knock out, this record really benefits from repeated listens. I have listened to this in so many ways and the thing I love about it is that its totally captivating in a different way every time. Did I mention that this is a double 5" release. Or that it comes with an amazing bonus track. No, not to worry, I think the music is the real attraction here!

Preorder Some Records and Receive Them Some Time in the Distant Future

You read right I am finally ready to offer the following two packages for Preorder.
1. Machine Fabriek/Gareth Davis Standards 5" and Runge Kutta Feat. Heman 5 1/4" floppy.
2. Clem Leek and MRC/PRB both on 5".
Package 1 will cost 20 pounds in the UK and 23 pounds for the rest of the world and package 2 will cost 25 pounds in the UK and 28 pounds for the rest of the world. Both packages are limited to 30 and some of these will be given to people contributing etc. If you are interested drop me an email but do not send any money until after I have confirmed you are on the list (which may take a week or two). Please note when I say some time in the distant future I'm not really joking. The first pack could easily take 6 months to come and the second even longer. However let me also say that I really hope you won't be disappointed as each pack will be special in some way (although not as special as the last preorder which included both releases, a badge, a recipe card, Nahuatl on CD, Unter|Uber on 3" CD with high res video, some stickers, 4 photos and came wrapped in an individually designed sleeve with one off artwork. I slightly overstretched myself shall we say). Finally MP3s will be sent out some time before these are released meaning that you will be the first people to hear these tracks.

New Volunteer October 2010

Second Brian Records Live Night

October 15th, 8ish, The Porter, Bath, Free Entry
Featuring New Volunteer, Ben Waller and Friends

I wrote the following press release:-

New volunteer are a really exciting five piece. Chris Mears, who fronts the band, day job is writing music for films, including cult classic "brick" and the brothers bloom, soon to be out in the UK. He is joined by two thirds of the Baker Brothers, one of the UKs best live funk bands. They combined the sonic mystery of Chris's film music, with the tightness and dexterity of the Baker Brothers to produce exciting and moving indie rock. With a strong focus on melody and not doing things in the way you would expect (Chris's is renowned for using house hold object in his recording) this proves to be a really exciting night.

Ben Waller and friends have been around Bath for many years but have all been too busy too actually meet and play in the same room until now. Combining guitar, banjo, accordion, tap dancing, loop pedals and boom box drum, they produce a fascinating and playful sound not a million miles away from the Bombay Bicycle club.

Local record label, Brian records, who are hosting the night, will also be playing an eccletic mix of music including releases and records by Brian artists (Peter Broderick, Nils Frahm, Clem Leek etc) as well as a very wide variety of jaw droppingly good records.

Pre-order Nils Frahm and Gareth Davis Record
-------------------
UPDATE 2 August 2010

The pre-order package has now sold out, these record will be available from boomkat and norman records as soon as I get them back from New Zealand, for advance warning of when these will drop join the mailing list!
-------------------
Brian records are proud to announce that releases 0000002 and 0000003 are now winging there way over to New Zealand to be lathe cut. If you would like to pre-order them you now can. In fact for the princely sum of 25 Pounds you can not only purchase both records but I will also include some other exclusive bits and pieces (including a badge, a couple of photos, a recipe, a copy of the first ever Brian booklet and anything else I can think to pop in)1.

Just to clarify release 0000002 is a lathe cut 5" record by Nils Frahm with two of his most simple and melodic pieces each lasting less than 2 minutes. Only 75 of these will be made.

Release 0000003 is a double lathe cut 5" record by Gareth Davis with four pieces played on bass clarinet, each one lasting exactly 2 minutes and with a Taco theme. Only 50 of these will be made2.

This offer is limited to the first 20 copies. I will send them out together (which means that the Nils Record will probably be a week or two later than it is in the shops but the Gareth Davis Record will be sent to you a few weeks before it is available anywhere else) in a hand decorated envelope along with the other bits and pieces. In addition I will send you the actual tracks as MP3s right now (or when I next check my email). The records may take a few weeks (or months) to come but you can start enjoying the music straight away. For non UK orders please include an extra 2 pounds for postage. Please also note that lathe cut records can sometimes take a LONG time to cut and so although I hope that they will be ready in two months Brian 50 took almost 6 months, it really depends on how busy Peter King (who cuts the records) is.

So to summarise, if you would like to pre-order these release, firstly send an email to jimlad at brianrecords dot co dot uk. If they are still available I will let you know by return and you can then send me the funds via paypal (or cash in person if you live near Bath), the cost is 25 pounds for the UK, 27 pounds for everywhere else. I will then send you the MP3s and then a few months later the actual records.

Sorry for the length of the post and thanks for reading. Jimlad

Note 1: I don't know exactly how much these will be in the shops they may be more (or less) than 25 pounds. However you will get some nice other exclusive bits and pieces plus you will also be supporting the release of the records.

Note 2: If twenty people pre-order these records only 25 of the Gareth Davis and 50 of the Nils Frahm will be available in the shops. 30 copies of Brian 50 were on sale and they sold out from boomkat in about 2 hours :)
